衝脈 Chong Mai— The Channel of Our Blueprint. The Thoroughfare Vessel.

衝 Chong means thoroughfare—a crossroads where pathways converge and flow in many directions. It also means to surge, to rush, to penetrate, and to move directly through.

脈 Mài means vessel, channel, vein, or a living current.

The Chong rushes through our center, bringing nourishment to every corner of the body while carrying the imprint of our Original Nature—our innate design, held within us like the oak waiting within the acorn. In the soil of our everyday lives, some buds of our originalness open easily; others remain dormant until the right season arrives or until they are called forth by the unexpected—the relationships, thresholds, losses, conflicts, and challenges that ask us to re-member parts of ourselves we did not yet know were there.

Culture, too, shapes our garden by giving us language, relationship, tradition, and belonging. But it also tells us who we should be, what we should value, and which parts of ourselves are welcome or not. Over time, who we have learned to be may become difficult to distinguish from who we originally are.

The Chong is always searching beneath these accumulated layers, feeling for the deeper resonance of our true nature. We may recognize it as a quiet sense of rightness, an inexplicable pull, a recurring longing, or the unmistakable recognition: I belong here. This is mine to live.
