Rooting and Rising

a Journey Back Home

Welcome to Living with the Elements!

Living with the Elements is an invitation to cultivate the awareness of our deep symbiosis with Mother nature so She can help us remember who we really are.

Living with the Elements is also an invitation to cultivate curiosity, presence, and awareness of the ever-changing tapestry of our existence through the lens of the Five Elements in Nature, a multifaceted concept deeply rooted in ancient Chinese philosophy and medicine. The Five Elements theory, which has stood the test of time for thousands of years, offers profound insights into the balance and harmony that permeate the Earth. Each element – Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water – possesses its own unique characteristics and qualities that mirror various aspects of our lives.

Wood, for instance, represents growth, expansion, and the energy of Spring. It reflects the upward momentum of new beginnings, creativity, vision and the ability to adapt and thrive amidst challenges. Just like a mighty tree, it teaches us to remain flexible and grounded while reaching for the sky.

Fire embodies passion, transformation, and the warmth of Summer. It is the element of inspiration, love, and the spark that ignites our souls. Like a dancing flame, it encourages us to embody joy, express ourselves authentically, and radiate our inner Light to the world.

Earth symbolizes stability, nurturing, and the abundance of late summer. It is grounded, providing a fertile foundation for growth and nourishment. Much like the soil that supports a vast garden, the Earth element teaches us to cultivate self-care, center ourselves, and embody compassion for ourselves and others.

Metal encompasses clarity, precision, and the crispness of Autumn. It represents strength, discernment, and the ability to let go of what no longer serves us. Like the refining process of metal, it teaches us the value of reducing excess, embracing simplicity, and embracing the beauty of impermanence.

Water is the element of wisdom, flow, and the deep calm of Winter. It is a symbol of introspection, adaptability, and the stillness that lies beneath the surface. Just as a serene lake reflects the world around it, the Water element encourages us to seek inner reflection, trust the natural ebb and flow of life, and embrace the mysteries that lie within and around us.

Living with the Elements invites us to explore, remember and perhaps reinvent our relationship with these Elemental Energies in and around us. It is my Heart-wish that throughout our sojourn, we discover that we are not separate from the Elements; rather, that we are intricately woven into their fabric; that we are them as much as they are us.

With Heart,
